Our former pupil Raquel Bernal, graduated 1991, new Chancellor of the Universidad de los Andes.

We congratulate our former pupil, Raquel Bernal -graduated 1991, for her new achievement as Chancellor of the Universidad de los Andes. As well as it being in recognition of her leadership, it is important to highlight that she is the first woman to achieve this post in the more than 70 years of history of the University.

Raquel is an economist at the Universidad de los Andes and has been linked to the institution as a professor in the Faculty of Economics since 2006 and as a full professor since 2014. She holds a Master's and PhD in Economics from New York University (2003). Her research focuses on social economics, economics of education, household and labour economics, and the determinants of human capital especially during early childhood. 

She was a lecturer at Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois) between 2002 and 2007; director of the Center for Economic Development Studies (CEDE) at Los Andes, between 2012 and 2017; member of the ethics committee of Los Andes (2013) and of the Faculty of Economics (2012 - 2017); member of the ordination committee of the Faculties of Economics, Administration and Engineering, and of the Superior Council of Uniandes (2016-2017).

Recently, Raquel was also appointed to the Board of the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.
