We are very proud of our former pupil José Roca, graduated 1980, who is the artistic director of the 23rd Biennal of Sydney, that will take place from 12th March to 13th June 2022.

The Festival it is a platform that will include cultural material, images from the field of science and different communities. It will feature rivers, wetlands and other salt and freshwater ecosystems entitled Rivus. In this Biennial, considering the perspective of water ecology implies a fundamental shift in understanding the relationship between humans and the rest of the natural world.

Jose Roca is the artistic director of FLORA ars+natura, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the crossover between art and nature based in Bogotá. He has been director of the LARA Collection (Latin American Roaming Art) and Assistant Curator of Latin American Art Estrellita B. Brodsky curator at the Tate in London (2012-15). He has been director of the LARA Collection (Latin American Roaming Art) and Assistant Curator of Latin American Art Estrellita B. Brodsky at the Tate Gallery London (2012-2015).

For a decade, he managed the programme of artsof the Banco de la República in Bogotá and was co-curator of the 1st Trienal Poli/gráfica de San Juan, Puerto Rico (2004), of the 27th São Paulo Biennial (2006), of the Encuentro de Medellín MDE07 (2007), and of the project of artistic interventions Cartagena in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia (2007).

He has been curator of numerous exhibitions in Latin America, the United States, Europe and Asia. He was a juror in the 52nd Venice Biennale (2007), Artistic Director of Philagrafika 2010, a triennial contemporary printmaking event in Philadelphia (2010), and General Curator of the 8th Mercosur Art Biennial in Porto Alegre, Brazil (2011).
