HISTORY

1958

The School, based on British principles was founded by Mrs. Mary Allen de Acosta, a British citizen.

1959

The School moved to a new location on calle 77 with carrera 7.

1964

Bachillerato introduced. Previously, our pupils went to the Anglo Colombian or San Carlos Schools.

1967

The School moved to its current location in Suba, though partly still in calle 77.  From 1968  onwards, the entire school is located in Suba.

1971

Our first high school graduated.

1978

Mrs. Acosta awarded an MBE, Member of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth 11 for her services to Education and the English language.

1981, 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1985

For consecutive years the School was awarded the "Andrés Bello" Honor Diploma by the Ministry of Education for outstanding results in the state exams - ICFES. 

1981

The renovation of the school premises   began. Since then the premises have expanded considerably.

1982

The School awarded the Civic Medal 'Camilo Torres' by the Presidency of the Republic for its work in Education.

1985

The headmaster is now Mr. Jaime H. Acosta Allen.

1986

 Houses are introduced: Muisca, Tairona, Sinú and Quimbaya with the inter-house competitions, to develop the cultural and artistic talents of the pupils. Prefects ( senior pupils) likewise introduced. These follow a traditional feature of British Schools.

1993

Mrs. Acosta  awarded  the Simón Bolívar Medal  by the Ministry of Education for outstanding services to the nation.

1998

The School awarded the Simón Bolívar Official Decoration by the Ministry of Education  in recognition of outstanding services in the field of Education. The Council of Bogota awards the School, with a Special Mention to Mrs. Acosta, the José Acevedo y Gómez Order, in the grade of 'Gran Cruz de Oro'  for its services to the city.

2005,2009 and 2018

 The food service  granted the  ISO 9001:2000, updated ISO 9001:2008  and  ISO 9001:2015.  The certificate valid for 3 years has an annual monitoring.

2012

The Cambridge Curriculum   introduced in Pre- school and Primary in a move towards international accreditation.

2015

Simon Acosta Wilson  becomes Head od Administration.

2017

Inauguration of the Preschool building, a three-story structure that houses Kindergarten, Transition and First grade classrooms, information technology, chess, art, music, makerspace, dance and administrative offices.

2018

The 60th anniversary of the founding of our school  commemorated  with various celebrations. In the same month, the Headmaster Jaime Acosta was granted the Simón Bolívar Award in the Grade of Gran Maestro, in recognition of 37 years dedicated to the service of education, science, art and culture.

2019

In commemoration of the centennial of Mrs. Acosta's birth , the fourth and fifth grade building is inaugurated.

The School is selected to be part of the first cohort of schools in the country to take part in the Primed programme. This model is based on six fundamental pillars to improve strategies of the social-emotional education in schools.

2020

The Ciprés Firm certifies the School is a 'Great place to Study', representing the measurement of satisfaction in indicators such as: learning experience, infrastructure, campus life, extracurricular activities and the happiness factor.

The School is awarded a Distinction by  Sapiens Research in the D1 AAA+ category,  for its long tradition in Education.

Within the European Excellence Model EFQM, the School is awarded  the Highest Rank of the 4 Star Level Quality Accreditation..

A contingency situation arose due to the COVID-19 pandemic that led to the activation of the Academic Continuity Plan. This distance learning allowed pupils to continue classes through the use of specific tools and platforms.
