The SGS MUSICAL
The SGS Musical is a showcase of the talent of our pupils who are committed to providing us with high quality performances. Year after year we are pleased to see our pupils develop their creative and artistic skills.
Actors, musicians, singers, dancers, managers and directors, all who are are involved in the production, demonstrated the talent and confidence they have acquired throughout the year in various House Competitions, Festivals, Assemblies and Cultural days.
This great show started many years ago as a traditional school Christmas show. For more than ten unforgetable years, the bachillerato pupils led by teacher Jennifer Williams have been bringing Christmas stories to life, with a very original touch.
Since 2013 we have been working with our former pupil Mauricio Lozano as creative director of 'The Christmas Show', along with different professionals who with their experience have given life to the SGS Musical. In addition, the number of pupils has grown and become our SGS Symphony Orchestra, which currently has more than 100 pupils.
In 2017 the school found in the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo a great ally, not only to continue expanding the love for art and culture, but also allowed us to receive a larger audience in one of the best stages in the city. This approach also brought about an alliance between the school and the Theater, through the programme Socios al Mayor Escolar (SAMES), which aims to promote and support the performing arts and culture through the alliance between the Theater and the educational entities that bet on these within their academic curriculum.
Productions such as: "The Perfect Nanny" (2017), "A Big, Bright, Beautiful Green Story" (2018), and "A Beatles Christmas Carol" (2019) were unforgettable shows. Our fourth production "Robin Hood Rhapsody" was ready to perform in 2020, but due to the pandemic generated by COVID-19, we had to postpone it. However, we worked on a virtual production and in August 2021 we presented the "Live Stream - Robin Hood Rhapsody" on the digital platform of the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo, which reached more than 4,000 views.
We returned to the stage with "Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Missing Mona Lisa" (2022) and then "Alice Forever...and Ever" (2023), adapting stories with classic characters and learning music from various genres and decades.
We invite you to join us on Saturday, November 23 at the Teatro Mayor for The Jungle Book. There are two performances: 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm.
