CITIZENS OF THE WORLD

We cultivate the love and the experiential knowledge of our country through excursions and educational outings.

During their time at school, pupils visit different regions of Colombia such as: the Llanos Orientales, the Zona Cafetera, the Amazonía, Santander, the Atlantic Coast and Boyacá.

Additionally, during the year pupils go on ecological outings that are organised by the Science Department. They visit places such as la Conejera Wetland, Granja la María, the Botanical Gardens, the Pionono Park, the Monoliths in Suesca, the Pedropalo Lake, Santa Rosita, Suesca, Cachipay, the Tablazo Mountain, the Tambo Waterfalls, the Valley of the Lakes, the Páramo of Guacheneque, and the Alto la Chorrera, among others.

We offer our bachillerato pupils the opportunity to travel internationally and to take part in cultural exchanges in places such as: Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and France. This can be for holidays, to practice different languages, or to participate in conferences and seminars on leadership.

The school selects pupils to take part in educational simulations that imitate organizations such as the United Nations, the European Union and the Colombian National Congress. Pupils, following diplomatic procedures, represent delegates from different countries or political parties in discussions.They search for possible solutions to the global problems of today through diplomatic debates in environmental, human rights, socio-economic and political committees.

 These simulations allow pupils to expand their knowledge of major global issues and to improve their research, speaking and reasoning skills. They also facilitate integration and socialization with pupils from other schools, other regions, and other nationalities.

SGSMUN (Saint George's School's United Nations Model)

Since 2011, the School has had its own internal UN Model called SGSMUN, in order for pupils from Grade 8 & 9 to become familiar with this scenario and learn in an empirical way. We also have Economic and Ecological Committees; as well as English and French Comimittes that debate different issues. This activity is supported by the Language and the Social Studies Departments.

We instigate programmes that encourage our pupils to develop their leadership skills, They are able to make and be responsible for their own decisions; to chart their own course and are capable of being authentic and autonomous. They can inspire social changes that are associated with ethics. They have social and environmental responsibility that develops alongside their own human and spiritual growth. These programmes are:

BUILDING DREAMS:

Is an internal programme that fosters leadership and entrepreneurship in pupils from Pre-kinder to Grade11. They have age-appropriate activities in which they learn issues such as savings, money management, investments, social and environmental responsibility, administration, the expression of ideas and business start-ups.

GLOBAL TEEN SUMMIT (CHARLES WRIGHT ACADEMY):

This is an annual programme in which selected pupils from SGS travel to the Charles Wright Academy, a private school in Tacoma USA. There, they attend conferences and discussion forums about matters related to social and environmental changes for a better world. Each year, pupils also go to schools in other continents (Europe, Asia, Middle East and North America) where they interact with pupils from other cultures and broaden their view of the world. These exchanges have inspired our own puplis to put into action similar local campaigns and programmes.

COPINBOGOTÁ:

Since 2015, two pupils from the School, and the organization CLIC have led the environmental activity COP in Bogotá. Through them, the Colombian youth are able to express their views on global environmental issues that are debated in the COP (Conference of Parties) event held by the United Nations.
