María Emma Laverde, 2008 alumna, talented ballet dancer who will perform this weekend on stage with the play KABUS.

María Emma Laverde's story stands out as an inspiring mix of passions turned into teachings. María Emma graduated from SGS in 2008 and has since forged a multifaceted career that reflects her dedication, curiosity and commitment to teaching in different and varied fields.

Graduated in Economics from the Universidad de los Andes, María Emma began her studies in pure Mathematics. However, she ended up changing her major to study Economics, as she felt an affinity for other subjects such as Social Sciences, History and public policy. Her passion for numbers came from a very young age, as well as her love for dance, a vocation she developed since she was 10 years old, training in academies and schools. A passion that would have a great impact on her life today.

The convergence of her love for different disciplines led her to explore new horizons, delving into teaching Pilates, ballet and English. Today, Maria Emma shares her professional diversity with the world by offering English classes to adults, math lessons to third and fourth graders, and pilates and ballet classes in various schools and for people with different learning levels, from beginner to advanced.

As for dance, she is linked to two dance schools: Danzastudio and DanceBog - Ballet en Movimiento. She has had the opportunity to perform in dance competitions in Córdoba, Argentina; in Italy; in Cali, Colombia and Bogotá, Colombia. She has also had the opportunity to attend Colombian festivals in New Jersey, as a guest country and to attend summer courses in Toronto, Canada and New York, USA.

One of the presentations he remembers most is the most recent one: Aladdin. And this is due to what it represented in her life, because it was her return to the stage after 3 years of being away from the stage and having several difficult situations, but which in turn left her with many lessons. She also remembers fondly when she danced Coppelia in a theater in Chia. She was the protagonist of the ballet along with her cousin sister, and also had the opportunity to have her mother on stage as one of the characters in the play. Being able to share her passion with her family filled her with joy.

Dance is a constant in their lives, they have presentations every December for the school closings, and on several occasions during the year. For this year they have additional presentations in March, May and August. And in June and September they will participate in dance competitions.

Each experience has been a foundation in building Maria Emma's career. Her dedication to academic excellence and her passion for learning have merged, allowing her to teach what she loves with passion and dedication. Maria Emma's journey has been one of challenges, doubts and victories, culminating in the full acceptance of her vocation: teaching. She assures that without a doubt her story has been written following the yearnings of her heart and this has guided her to a clear purpose.

She dreams of a future in which she can establish a movement center, a space where people of diverse nationalities and occupations discover greater body awareness. Maria Emma aspires to multiply knowledge, share valuable lessons and do so on a large scale, trusting in God's divine guidance.

The experiences at school have been a beacon of opportunities and fond memories for Maria Emma. The tranquility, the daily laughter and the friendships will always remain in her memories. She misses the moments shared with friends, teachers and servers at school, as well as the delicious food that was part of her daily routine.
